It’s unbelievable but true. There are ever increasing levels of pharmaceuticals in water supply. I have seen many studies and claims to answer the question,” does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water.” The results are mixed but on the whole, no, they don’t, not completely anyway.

There is evidence to suggest that a portion of pharmaceuticals in water supply still get through, especially as these systems are based on old technology designed originally for the print and photographic industries.

So how does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water, especially when it lets a portion through still?

Water is forced under pressure through a very fine membrane that filters out many of the contaminants, but crucially also removes the vital trace minerals we need to be healthy. These include calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Don’t just take my word for it, the World Health Organization has recently concluded the same, that these minerals should be present in our drinking water, to ensure our health.

To the matter of pharmaceuticals in water supply reservoirs and ultimately our tap water, we need to see how poor our water companies are at cleaning our water. It is estimated that there are over 2000 toxins in our tap water, again this has been proven in a high level study by the Ralph Nader Study Group.

There is also an alarming increase in the cases of “man boobs” where guys are actually getting mini breasts in part due to the amount of oestrogen in the water supply, and why the question does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water is so important.

This is why it is essential to have a high quality system which can filter out 99 % of contaminants and still leave you with those valuable minerals.

So really the question perhaps you should be asking yourself is do I really want a reverse osmosis system, to which the answer should be an emphatic no! You want to safeguard your family’s health by using a quality filtration system.

The good ones have a multi-stage or twin filtration process, utilizing an activated carbon or granular carbon filter, and have been proven to be the most effective on the market today.

So I hope that this has answered the question of does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water, and pharmaceuticals in water supply enough so that you can maybe do a little more research on the types of systems I have outlined.

Do yourself a favor and make it a point to dramatically improve the quality of the water you drink, and ultimately your own health, now and for the future.

If you would like to learn more about the systems I recommend to use and which to avoid, visit my website today.

Does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water? Why would anyone ask that? News reporters learned recently that there are pharmaceuticals in water supply reservoirs and kitchen taps around the country.

How did they get there? Well, it was not an act of terrorism or anything like that. It’s really quite simple and not surprising, when you think about it.

When a medication is ingested, not all of it is absorbed by the body. The remainder is flushed from the body and excreted in urine. The waste is treated and recycles and eventually makes it way back into your home.

Since Americans are a well medicated bunch, much of the waste does carry unused prescription and non-prescription drugs. Testing has shown pharmaceuticals in water supply tanks that were considered ready for human consumption.

Of course, the waste was treated before actually being considered for use, but while the widely accepted treatment practices do well against biological waste, they are incapable of breaking down medications and other chemical compounds. There’s your answer to does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water, because nearly every facility in the country includes and RO step in their complete process.

Logically, since we have pharmaceuticals in water supply approved for use by humans and it has already gone through RO, then RO does not remove them. The EPA has known for many years that chemicals, mostly resulting from pollution, were in the drinking water. It was only a matter of time until they found pharmaceuticals in water supply tanks, too.

Before getting overly alarmed, the actual amount of pharmaceuticals in water supply taps is pretty small. The actual dose of medication is barely perceptible. Getting up right now and grabbing a glass straight form the tap will not subject you to a mega-dose of medication. The human body is actually better equipped to handle a one-time large dose then a smaller amount over time, and that’s the problem.

Yes, the amount of pharmaceuticals in water supply containers is small and per glass, barely measurable, but it is impossible to determine what, over the course of, say, several years, the ramifications will be. What makes matters worse is the wide variety of medications that have been found. Antibiotics, anti-seizure medication, antidepressants, angina medication, pain killers and sex hormones, to name a few, have been found in different studies.

I’m sure the reason that people ask does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water is because they have read the reports and seen RO home units hardily advertised on the internet. We’ve already answered the question, but here’s why it doesn’t work.

RO units can only remove contaminants that are heavier than or larger than a molecule of water. Since the drugs are dissolved in the water, they are not larger or heavier than it.Other filtration units, such as activated carbon and multi media blocks can remove chemicals and drugs, just not RO. So, you don’t have to worry about pharmaceuticals in water supply taps at your house, as long as you have the right unit. But, if anyone asks you does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water, tell them, “NO”. For more information see my website. – Larry L. Taylor

Pharmaceuticals in the water supply is becoming a major problem in the US and other countries. Pharmaceuticals can end up in the water supply through several methods and the result is a health risk for anyone who is not filtering their tap water with a good quality water filter.

Many people have a reverse osmosis type water filter and thus think they are safe from pharmaceuticals in the water. But does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water? Or is some of this harmful pollutant still getting through? This article takes a look at what sort of pharmaceuticals are entering the water supply and whether reverse osmosis really filters it out.

Pharmaceuticals may end up in the water supply from:

- Farm animals that ingest hormones. Also the antibiotics and veterinary medicines can pollute waterways from the animal waste. Unfortunately antibiotics are given to livestock to enhance their growth. Their manure can the wash off from the land into surface water and ground water.

- Humans that don’t metabolize all ingested medication and as such we flush the remains down the sewer system. This water is then filtered and directed back to houses. If the filtering system is not optimal then pharmaceutical traces will remain in the water.

Pharmaceuticals have been found in the water supply in various tests and studies including inside some fish and frogs, so it is certainly not a myth. Many plants use reverse osmosis systems so it is safe to say that reverse osmosis does not remove all pharmaceuticals from water. It only takes tiny particles to get through the filters and into your glass of water. Reverse osmosis simply does not use filters with a small enough membrane size to filter out all microorganisms and substances.

So how do water treatment facilities try to hide or cover up pharmaceuticals in water supply ? They use chlorine to disinfect the water! Yes, chlorine is the same substance used to clean the family swimming pool. Do you really want drink that stuff? I know I don’t!

The result of disinfecting already infected water with chlorine can result in even more contamination. Chlorine simply is unsafe to drink. Remove osmosis does not remove chlorine from the water so you will be drinking it unless you install a water filter at home.

Other pollutants in the water supply include chemicals such as those used in cosmetics, fragrances and toiletries as well as detergents and sunscreens.

In conclusion, there are multiple sources for pharmaceuticals in the water supply. Good quality water filters can provide protection for you and your family. Do your research, and find a system that meets your needs!

One question that is often asked by people considering buying the system: does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water? For those that don’t know, a serious health problem has been recently discovered—pharmaceuticals in water supply reservoirs all over North America and Europe.

That is the reason for asking the question, does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water, because now we have to worry about all manner of drugs getting into our body. So, how did all of these drugs find their way into our drinking water? This problem of pharmaceuticals in water supply reservoirs came about because of bad advice. Pharmaceutical companies have been advising medical institutions to flush out-of-date medication down the toilet. It’s hard to believe, but that’s what happens in hospitals and pharmacies. This means that every medical facility in your area has been filling your water supply with drugs. Before I go on about the unsafe practices recommended by pharmaceutical companies, let me first answer the question of does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water? Reverse osmosis equipment is in no way capable of preventing this medical cocktail from entering your home…and possibly affecting your family’s health. Now, we wouldn’t have as much of a problem with pharmaceuticals in water supply reservoirs if the medical professionals would have simply followed their original plan. They had planned to allow these drugs to end up in landfills. But the pharmaceutical companies were afraid that someone may find the drugs there and use them recreationally. So, their unfounded concerns over medications falling into the hands of random junkies outweighed the health of the general public. They thought it would be a better idea to dump them in the water supply so the entire population is exposed. This again leads us back to the original question: does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water? The pharmaceuticals in water supply reservoirs can be prevented from entering your home. To do it, you need to use water purification systems with both an activated granular carbon filter and a multi media block. These two filters, used together, effectively remove pharmaceutical drugs and just about every other chemical from your drinking water. So, now you know the answer to the question—does reverse osmosis remove pharmaceuticals from water. And you have learned that there are far better tools that you can use to keep your family safe from these impurities. My advice is to make the purchase of a high quality home water purification system a priority, because you don’t want the ones you love drinking contaminated water.
