Drug rehab

Â

In a perfect world, the best drug addiction prevention is “not to play”. All the drug rehab centers says that But it isn’t that easy. Not just street drugs

When we think about drug abuse prevention, we usually think about illegal street drugs, but we don’t always think about drugs that are taken initially for legitimate medical purposes, and then later abused.

Drug rehab Physicians prescribe narcotics to control pain, or medications to control emotional swings. Taken as prescribed, under a doctor’s care, these drugs can be effective. However, they are all too often abused. Because the doctor’s prescription calls for a safe dosage, but the user exceeds that safe dosage.

Prevention not always top of mind

Thinking about drug addiction prevention, we think of those who are already in the throws of addiction, but we don’t necessarily think in terms of prevention. It’s more thinking about how to deal with the problem. If an ounce of prevention is indeed worth a pound of cure, drug addiction prevention programs become very important.

Drug abuse prevention begins early

It’s never too early to start talking to children about the dangers of drug abuse, as the drugs are everywhere. Parents’ needs to have a clear and open dialog with their kids about drugs and listen to what the kids are saying. Adults need to listen carefully to pick up nuggets of information that may lead to a preventative move down the road.

One of the best ways of communicating with children, and other adults, is to be the example. If I don’t want you to use drugs or alcohol, I should not use them in the presence of an impressionable person. It’s like smoking cigarettes. If mom and dad smoke, chances are the kids will smoke.

Parents are encouraged to have an open dialog and to try to be objective about their children. “My little Johnny would never take drugs” is a seriously short-sighted statement when examined from the standpoint that every child is a potential drug abuser and addict. You can see that denial plays a big role in dealing with potential hazards.

Strong Parenting is KEY!

The best prevention measure for children is strong parenting, and drug addiction prevention initiatives in schools, churches and the community. Prevention programs need to adapt to the environment where the effort is taking place.

Good programs exist for schools

School programs have been implemented, such as the Narcotics Anonymous presentation, which gives kids an open and frank discussion about drugs. Many of the presenters are former addicts, who can speak directly to the terrible side-effects, loss of relationships and the destruction of their lives.

The narcotics anonymous program has also been a valuable research-gathering effort, as they have learned about how children think about drugs, why they use, why they quit and in doing so, how to speak their language and communicate effectively.

Higherpowerfoundation.orgis a comfortable residential facility for the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction. We at Higher Power Foundation help people transform their lives by providing the highest quality addiction treatment and continuing care services in a safe, serene and homely environment. We offer a comprehensive approach to the recovery process that addresses the full range of patient, family, and professional needs including treatment and continuing care for youth and adults. Our goal is to help people reclaim their lives from the disease of addiction.

Â

1) State Laws on Drug Testing

If an employer plans on taking part in the workers’ compensation program there should be a drug-testing program in place. In addition there are certain employees that must undergo mandatory drug testing depending on their job function.

2) Types of Drugs

There are 10 drugs that the state allows a company to test for. These drugs include:

-amphetamines

-cocaine

-marijuana

-methadone

-PCP

-barbiturates

-opiates

-propoxyphene

-benzodiazpines

-metabolites of the above drugs

3) Policy Disclosure

All job postings must include notice that the employer does conduct drug testing on its employees. In addition the job advertisement should let the potential candidate know testing will be conducted as part of the hiring process. In addition the policy must be posted where all employees can see it.

4) The Written Policy

Florida law requires employers to have a written policy. This policy must be provided to each employee. The policy must state the following:

-The employer must provide a policy statement outlining the general guidelines on drug testing and drug abuse.

-The employer must include the circumstances under which a drug test will be required.

-The employer must disclose the drug testing methods it uses as well as the drugs it tests for.

-The employer must disclose the consequences of a positive test and the options the employee has to contest the results.

-The employer must inform the employee of its policy on confidentiality as pertains to the employees ability to inform the employer of drugs being used, either prescription or over the counter prior to testing or after being tested for drugs or alcohol.

-The employer must disclose those medication that could result in a false positive on a drug test.

-The employer must disclose the consequences when an employee refuses to have a drug test

-The employer must provide information of any drug and alcohol assistance programs available to the employee.

-The employer must provide the employee with notification of the right to contact a medical review officer to learn about medications.

-The employer must give 60 days notice if they plan on drug testing.

5) Types of Drug Test

When a sample is collected for drug testing the state requires it be divided so the employee has the opportunity for re-testing in case of a positive result. Urine, blood and hair samples are the required methods of drug testing in Florida.

6) Paying for Drug Tests

The employer is required to pay for all laboratory and drug testing fees for the initial test. However a re-test or drug treatment program may be paid by the employee.

7) Where Can Drug Tests Be Done?

Employers must follow federal laws to determine where they send employees for drug testing. The testing must be reviewed by a SAMHSA or lab that is condoned by the FLAHCA.

Mandatory Testing

Mandatory drug testing must be done for the following workers:

-construction contractors

-electrical contractor

-security system contractor

-those building academic buildings (per chapter 1013), public or private buildings (per chapter 255) and prisons and jails (per chapter 944)

-drivers of school buses

9) When Can Drug Testing Be Done?

Per Florida statute drug testing can be a contingency of hire and should a potential employee refuse to partake in the drug testing the job offer can be withdrawn. Florida law also states if an employee is suspected of abusing drugs or alcohol and employer can demand a mandatory drug test. Drug testing can be required as part of a standard medical evaluation for those jobs requiring regular fitness testing. Drug testing must also be done by an employer once an employee finishes a drug or alcohol rehab treatment program. The testing can be random and continue for up to 2 years after treatment is completed.

10) Testing Positive

A medical review officer must confirm all positive tests. There are no mandatory state required consequences. It is up to the employer how to follow up on positive tests. A positive test however, could prevent the employee form getting unemployment compensation.

Narcotics Anonymous also known as NA is a program based on the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous and designed to help recovering drug addicts beat their addiction and face their problems. Drug addiction often is an outward sign an internal psychological issues that are not resolved. Often times family relationships and childhood experiences are contributing factors for drug addiction. Failed parental relationships, poor parental care and mind numbing poverty can combine to form a perfect maelstrom for drugs. There are some people who also become addicted due to casual recreational use that snowballs. For various issues including how to quit smoking weed, this group is very helpful.

Narcotics Anonymous is a non-profit group that meets to discuss the mechanics of addiction and how to keep it from reoccurring. Being clean and sober is tough, and these meetings are regular intervals are designed to form a mechanism of support for recovering addicts. Often only recovering addicts themselves are allowed to administer these types of groups. There is an understanding between members of the daily struggles and one’s sponsor can be very helpful for individual support.

The meeting forms a place for developing friendships, support networks and reinforcement for healthier pursuits. Some people will attend meetings once or twice a day and others will go once or twice a week. The sponsor – addict relationship is a core element of NA. The sponsor is another person the addict can rely upon when there is a feeling that they are about to regress. This person can provide strength and counseling to the addict. The idea is that you have better chances of staying clean and sober with help and having this relationship will foster and maintain better choices. For more than 50 years this program has been successful. There are two types of meetings that available. Open meetings are available to anyone. Closed meetings are only for addicts and drug users. Because there may be negative opinions towards drug abusers the closed meetings allow addicts to be more comfortable without fear of ridicule or verbal confrontations.

1) Texas Laws for Drug Testing

Texas law states that if a business wishes to take part in the workers’ compensation system and has over 15 employees than that employer shall formulate a policy for drug abuse prevention. Otherwise there is no state law or ordinance that mandates how a company must conduct their drug-testing program.

2) Types of Drugs

Texas has no state laws that require certain types of drugs be tested for. Alcohol, marijuana, barbiturates and many more can all be tested at the whim of an employer. There is no limitation for private or public companies as to what they can test for.

3) Company Disclosure

State law does require that each employee, on the first day of hire, be presented with a written drug abuse and testing policy. However no company, private or public, is required to post their policy in any public area on company grounds.

4) Written Policy

For those companies taking part in the workers’ compensation program there must be a written policy. The policy must included the following items:

-The purpose of the drug abuse policy must be explained in a coherent and easy to understand statement.

-The policy must list the types of drugs that will be tested for such as alcohol, illegal drugs, drugs that are huffed or inhaled and even prescription drugs if the company chooses.

-The policy must include and consequence for those who are caught or who test positive using drugs that are not allowed per company policy.

-The policy must include information on drug and alcohol treatment programs available and whether these programs are covered by the employers’ health insurance.

-Finally the policy must describe the drug testing the employer conducts to test for use and abuse.

5) Types of Drug Testing

Texas state law does not require any particular form of drug testing be conducted. The employer can choose the type of drug testing they prefer be it the standard urine test or the more sophisticated hair sample or blood test.

6) Who Pays

There is not statute that states the employer or the employee must pay for the drug testing. As standard practice the employer will foot the bill for the drug test.

7) The Lab

There is no law or ordinance in Texas stating drug testing must take place at a hospital, laboratory, or doctor’s office. It is up to the employer to decide where the want to send their employees for drug and alcohol testing.

Mandatory Drug Testing

Texas state law does not demand any particular employee be tested for drug and alcohol use. Not even those individuals involved with public safety or who perform dangerous tasks are required to be tested for drugs.

9) When Should Drug Testing Occur?

It is up to the company as to when they decide to perform Employee Drug Testing. Most employers will conduct drug-testing prior to an employees first day on the job but this is not a state law.

10) Testing Positive

Companies that participate in the workers’ compensation program must disclose any consequences set forth by the company if drug or alcohol use is confirmed. However there is no law or ordinance stating how a positive test must be handled by a company. There is one exception, if an employee has a commercial driver’s license and they do test positive they must be reported to the Department of Public Safety. And, anyone who falsifies a drug test can be prosecuted.

Pharmaceutical CME: Measuring Program Effectiveness in the Compliance Environment

Pharmaceutical CME departments struggle to measure performance for a number of reasons. The lack of hard measures for medical education, along with a fear of appearing non-compliant stops many companies from tracking return on investment (ROI). Many medical education departments use post-CME outcomes measures to judge the effectiveness of their investments in CME events. Unfortunately, attendance figures are the only hard measurement available from outcomes measurements – and high attendance numbers do not always translate into effective programs.

Pharmaceutical CME: Measuring Program Effectiveness in the Compliance Environment explores the current challenges facing continuing medical education, as well as includes trend analysis, successful strategies and best practices. The study’s major focus areas include:

CME Structure, Staffing and Spending – Cutting Edge Information collected case studies and benchmark data to underscore CME investment trends and reorganization strategies to remain compliant with industry regulations.

CME Program Strategies and Goals – Analysts compared industry-leading strategies and outlined goals for CME departments.

Darvocet [Generic name: Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene] is an analgesic medicine given to relieve those who are suffering from moderate pain, which may or may not be accompanied by fever. As with any other medicine, Darvocet has to be taken under medical prescription and guidance, as an overdose can be harmful. It has to be kept out of reach of children and drug addicts; the prescribed dose to be taken at the scheduled time. It is available online.Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene together compose Darvocet, an analgesic which is administered to relieve patients suffering from mild to moderate pain, which may be accompanied by fever. While Acetaminophen, a non-narcotic analgesic and antipyretic, is a relatively mild pain reliever and reduces fever, Propoxyphene is a strong narcotic pain-reliever and cough suppressant. Darvocet is effective in providing greater relief to patients since it is a combination of both Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene. It is available in tablet formulation, the recommended adult dose being 1-2 tablets every 4 hours, but not to exceed 12 tablets of 325 mg or 6 tablets of 650 mg a day. Those prescribed Darvocet should inform the physician if they are allergic to any drug, or if they are suffering from any kind of breathing disorder [including asthma], have a history of alcohol/drug addiction, experience low blood pressure, abdominal/intestinal disorder, any disease related to the kidneys or liver, have a brain tumour or had a head injury, have curvature of the spine, or any kind of mental illness. Persons habituated to having more than three alcoholic beverages daily or those who have suffered cirrhosis of the liver may be unable to digest Darvocet because of the Acetaminophen content in it. Darvocet can impair thinking; those taking it are advised to be extremely alert always, more so when driving or out of their homes. Alcohol should be avoided. If the patient thinks the medicine has stopped working, then the doctor should be informed. Doctor’s instructions should be followed strictly, as an overdose of Acetaminophen [“APAP”] can seriously impair the liver, while leading to fatality in depressed patients. One tablet of Darvocet may contain upto 650 mg Acetaminophen, while the maximum amount of Acetaminophen advisable for adults varies from 1000 mg to 4000 mg per day.Darvocet should be taken at a fixed time with water. A missed dose can be taken as soon as you remember; but if it’s soon going to be time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped. Darvocet can also be taken with food or water to ease a stomach upset. As Propoxyphene causes constipation, you should increase your water intake by drinking upto 8 glasses of water daily while taking Darvocet. Ask the doctor before taking a laxative; you could increase the fibre content in your diet. If Darvocet is taken for long, it may lead to withdrawal symptoms when stopped, but it should not be stopped on your own. If a patient is about to undergo a surgery, then the medicine has to be stopped for some time. Otherwise, the physician may wish to taper it off, before telling the patient to finally stop.  As with other medicines, Darvocet has side effects, which could include shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, fainting or feeling light-headed, confused thinking for no apparent reason, seizures, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, clay-coloured stools, jaundice, dark urine, itching, dryness in the mouth, blurred vision, headaches or swelling of the face-lips-tongue-throat. Inform the treating doctor of all medications-herbal products-vitamins-minerals being taken by you as some of these may clash with Darvocet, and the doctor can best decide what is suitable for you.Few studies have been conducted on pregnant women, yet if a woman is pregnant or planning to have a baby, then the doctor should be informed immediately as Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene can pass into breast milk and may cause breathing problem/withdrawal symptoms in newborns. Darvocet should be kept out of reach of children and pets, and not given to drug addicts.

Darvocet [Generic name: Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene] is an analgesic medicine given to relieve those who are suffering from moderate pain, which may or may not be accompanied by fever. One tablet of Darvocet may contain upto 650 mg Acetaminophen, while the maximum amount of Acetaminophen advisable for adults varies from 1000 mg to 4000 mg per day.

Darvocet should be taken at a fixed time with water.

Inform the treating doctor of all medications-herbal products-vitamins-minerals being taken by you as some of these may clash with Darvocet, and the doctor can best decide what is suitable for you.

Few studies have been conducted on pregnant women, yet if a woman is pregnant or planning to have a baby, then the doctor should be informed immediately as Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene can pass into breast milk and may cause breathing problem/withdrawal symptoms in newborns.

Darvocet should be kept out of reach of children and pets, and not given to drug addicts.

Drug addiction is a complicated problem and people have a tendency to want to simplify it. This is not really possible though because the solution is necessarily complicated as well. Addiction affected us in so many ways and so any solution we might use to overcome addiction needs to address many different areas of our lives.
So many people claim to have the answers to beating addiction but the fact of the matter is that relapse rates remain quite high, regardless of what program or what approach you take. On the other hand, there are a handful of success stories among people in recovery and we can draw several parallels between their experiences if we look closely at the situation.
Here are some tips based on what has worked for me and others that I’ve worked with in recovery:
1. Don’t underestimate your disease. Every single person does at first.
2. Take care of yourself spiritually. Be mindful of your connection to your higher power today.
3. Ignore the dismal relapse rates. You are creating your own success.
4. Make a zero tolerance policy with yourself concerning relapse. Don’t even allow your mind to go there.
5. Avoid fundamentalism, even in recovery. Rigid thinking and dogma can undermine your sobriety.
6. You are creating a life of recovery and you are responsible for ALL OF IT. Yes, others can help you. Their “help” is mere advice. It is up to you to recover.
7. Don’t confuse enthusiasm for action. Figure out what you need to do to stay sober and then do it.
8. Listen to what the relapsing addicts keep preaching. Then do the opposite.
9. Take care of your social network. Reach out to others in a meaningful way.
10. Figure out a way to help other addicts or alcoholics.
Now there are other concepts and ideas out there that will help you to overcome drug addiction but if you stick to this list of ideas and actually implement then you would be further ahead than 90 percent of the struggling addicts out there.
The reason for this is not because this is a magic list of recovery principles that is better than the 12 steps or anything, but simply that most people will not actually put in the action required to rigorously follow any program.
Imagine a recovery program that instructed “don’t drink or do drugs and stand on your head all day.” This would actually work if you worked it, but does that really prove anything? Does that make it a good program? Of course not, the proof is in how well a program helps you transition to the life you really want. If a recovery program doesn’t do that then it is not worth working it. Find a vision for your own recovery and go after it using these ideas.

Narcotics Anonymous Recovery Program information

Visit this website http://www.clinicaalcooledrogas.com.br and you can find a lot of information of drogas e alcool.

* Find a alcohol or drug addiction treatment center

* Browse local recovery support programs

Narcotics Anonymous (“NA”) is an organization of drug addicts helping other addicts. The organization hosts 43,900 meetings each week in 127 countries around the world.

Narcotics Anonymous Overview system.

The first NA meetings were held in Los Angeles, California, in the early 1950s. Its program is based on the one used by Alcoholics Anonymous. By the early 1970s, NA established chapters in other major U.S. cities and in Australia. In 1983, NA published a book entitled, “Basic Text,” which brought more attention to its activities. Enrollment jumped as a result, and by the end of the year, the group was active in more than 12 countries.

Philosophy of work.

NA is a not-for-profit organization that provides help and support to people who are trying to stay clean from drugs. How long a member used drugs or how much they ingested is not important; all a member needs to join NA is the desire to live a drug-free life. The group is open to people addicted to any kind of drug.

Traditions, Steps, and Process

NA is a 12-step program that provides support to its members. At meetings, members are free to share their challenges in learning how to live without using drugs, as well as their triumph in achieving their goal of staying clean “one day at a time.” NA is not a religious institution, and each member is encouraged to interpret the step of turning their lives over to a Higher Power in the way that fits with their personal beliefs.

Members of NA are encouraged to abstain from using all forms of drugs, including alcohol. The group has the opinion that complete abstinence makes it easier for its members to make the personal changes necessary to sustain their recovery. The exception to this policy is when psychiatric or other medications have been prescribed by a physician and used according to directions.

Effectiveness: Does Narcotics Anonymous Work?

According to the NA web site, a survey of its members indicated that they had a mean number of 9.1 years clean. The results of the 2007 survey also revealed that 90 percent of the organization’s members felt their lives were richer after seeking help from the group. In addition, 83 percent felt a stronger sense of social connections after joining.

Controversy and Criticism

Different groups had their own opinions about the content contained in the book put out by NA, which led to some internal controversy. In 1988, the NA World Conference made a determination that the 5th Edition of the group’s text is the only one that is officially approved for distribution and sale.
